14 février 2019, Genève, Suisse - Dans le cadre de sa collaboration avec l’UNICEF, l’UNOSAT et le Bureau de l’UNICEF au Mali ont dispensé une formation pratique à l’utilisation des systèmes d’information géographiques en libre accès (open source) et notamment Quantum GIS (QGIS) dans le but de renforcer les capacités des équipes et partenaires de l’UNICEF au Mali en collecte, traitement et dissémination des données SIG et des technologies de la géo-information spatiale.
23 - 24 January 2019, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China – UNITAR, in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) successfully held the Learning Conference “Implementing the 2030 Agenda in the Asia-Pacific Region” in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, on the 23rd and 24th of January 2019. The conference was attended by more than 95 participants, including government officials leading the SDGs process in their countries, diplomats, international civil servants as well as university professors. 23 countries were represented in this event, with many participants coming from Small Island Developing States (SIDS), thus, providing different perspectives and experiences regarding the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
13 December 2018, Geneva, Switzerland – As part of their journey around the world to promote the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Mr. Juan Pablo Caroli and Mr. Nicolas Caroli visited Geneva, Switzerland and the United Nations European Headquarters. During their visit, the Caroli brothers toured UNITAR and the Palais des Nations, meeting with UN officials, including Ms. Alessandra Vellucci, Director of the UN Information Service in Geneva, to spread the word about their unique project.
15 November 2018, Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR has been collaborating with the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) since 2015 to assist African countries with their capacity building for sustainable development.
21 - 25 October 2018, Khartoum, Sudan – In partnership with the Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), UNITAR-UNOSAT delivered a 5-day workshop, with support from the Government of Norway, to enhance the technical capacity of officials to conduct hazard assessments using earth observation data and geographic information systems (GIS). The workshop brought together actors from the public sector, private sector and academia in Sudan, including the Federal Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Sudanese Remote Sensing Authority, University of Khartoum, and the Forests National Corporation to name a few.
22 October - 2 November 2018, Thimphu, Bhutan – UNITAR-UNOSAT has delivered a two-week training programme, with support from the State of Qatar, to enhance the use of geospatial technologies for evidence-based decision making in Bhutan. The in-country training was organised in cooperation with the National Land Commission Secretariat of the Royal Government Bhutan, and it also brought together government officials from the selected line ministries, such as Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and Ministry of Economic Affairs.
UNITAR-UNOSAT is currently collaborating with UNDP and national stakeholders to bolster disaster management capacity in Guyana and Dominica, with a specific focus on women, through the 3-year project funded by the Government of Japan. The project “Strengthening Disaster Management Capacity of Women in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and Commonwealth of Dominica” is being implemented in partnership with the UNDP Barbados, UNDP Guyana and the member states of OECS (Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States).
