25-26 April 2019, Shanghai, China - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and its International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Shanghai (CIFAL Shanghai) in collaboration with the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), Tongji University and AB InBev, hosted the two-day “Road Safety and Digital Innovation: Asia-Pacific Conference” in Shanghai, with a focus on using innovative solutions to address road safety issues.

24 technical experts from the government and academic institutions in Uganda successfully completed a one-week course in the use of Earth observations (EO) and geographic information system (GIS) for hazard assessment, delivered by UNOSAT from 25 to 29 March 2019 in Kampala, Uganda. When it comes to GIS technical training, the trend towards a more balanced gender ratio has been remarkably harder to achieve; however, this learning event had over 50 percentages of female participants.

For this Impact Story, we also interviewed Meck Chikaphupha from Malawi. During the course, Meck was working in the Department of Agricultural Planning Services and specifically in the Policy Development Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development.
