18 November 2013, Bangkok - UNOSAT joined some 100 disaster management professionals representing 20 countries from Asia and the Pacific for a two-day meeting convened by OCHA to discuss ideas and best practices in humanitarian assistance and emergency preparedness. This was the fifth meeting of the “Regional Humanitarian Partnership” in the region.

Joy Ogwu, Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Nations, on Thursday 14 November. Professor Ogwu met with the 2013 UNITAR Youth Ambassadors, Ms. Sae Murai, Hiroshima Jogakuin High School, and Mr. Yuuki Yanagawa, Hiroshima Gakuin High School, and discussed the role of today’s youth, gender, diplomacy, and peace.

11 November 2013, Geneva, Switzerland - A UNOSAT analyst told a TV reporter on Monday that what she could see on the satellite image she was processing looked “very much like a tsunami”. First satellite analysis reports released today by UNOSAT corroborate this impression and in describing the devastating consequences of Typhoon Haiyan UNOSAT refers to towns as “eradicated”.
10 November 2013, Geneva, Switzerland - International experts agree that Cyclone Haiyan that hit the Philippines on 9 November was "probably the most intense and strongest storm of this type to make landfall". While cyclones of this intensity have occurred before, they usually lose part of their strength by the time they reach shore. Not Haiyan, which swept through six central Philippine islands packing winds of up to 270 Km/h and causing immense damage and probably unprecedented loss of life.
29 October 2013, Geneva, Switzerland - Heavy rainfall since September 2013 has provoked important flooding in Cambodia, affecting especially north-west and south-east provinces. In 20 provinces damage has been extensive. The country has 24 provinces in total. According to national sources 168 people have been killed and almost 145,000 have been evacuated as of this week.
