The two day workshop “Introduction on Conference Diplomacy” is intended to familiarize junior diplomats with the world of conference diplomacy and help them overcome obstacles. The earthquake that rocked Haiti on Tuesday this week caused unprecedented consequences on the population and the urban areas of Haiti. Many United Nations staff and peacekeepers remain unaccounted for in Haiti, and many are reported to be trapped in UN buildings that collapsed in the earthquake, UN officials say. The recent floods in Vietnam have cause massive destructions and provoked a humanitarian situation in extensive areas in the country. The Province of Quang Tri has been particularly affected. The UNOSAT team has already posted on 1 October a first satellite derived map of flood affected areas which is used by national authorities and international relief entities to organize and coordinate relief efforts.

The recently-held 2009 UNITAR Regional Training was organized in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Thirty eight mid and senior-level government officials, senior advisors to presidents and prime ministers, as well as African Union and UN peace operation staff on the continent took part.
