5 May 2020, Madrid, Spain - UNITAR and the International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Madrid (CIFAL Madrid) together with RACE and the European University are pleased to open its 2020 edition of the Postgraduate Programme “Expert in Road Safety Management and Administration”. The four-week academic programme aims to equip participants with knowledge about strategic initiatives that have been successful in reducing road traffic crashes.

Road traffic injuries claim more than 1.35 million lives each year with a disproportionate impact on health and development. They are the ninth leading cause of death across all age groups globally and the leading cause among young people aged between 5 and 29 years. In the current COVID-19 crisis, the use of roads has changed significantly. Even though there is a decrease on road users due to mobility restrictions, there is also an increase of risky behaviours on roads such as speeding. If this trend continues, it might cause an impact on an increase of road safety fatalities and injuries once mobility measures are relaxed.

With the aim of providing training on this timely issue, UNITAR, CIFAL Madrid, RACE and the European University have developed a comprehensive training programme comprised of four modules, including, research, human mobility and prevention policies, road safety factors, and road safety knowledge. The programme is targeted to high level professionals working on road safety policy-making from public, private and academic sectors.

The programme will take place in Madrid, at the European University-Alcobendas Campus and it offers the possibility to learn from 44 specialists working on cutting-edge solutions on road safety. The programme also offers the opportunity of being part of a multidisciplinary and diverse road safety global community where participants will be able to access lectures and seminars presented by practitioners and experts.

Participants successfully completing all the requirements will receive a postgraduate certificate (25 credits) of Expert in Road Safety Management and Administration issued by the European University, CIFAL Madrid, Race and UNITAR.
