06 February 2020, Geneva, Switzerland - In the framework of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting held in Davos, Switzerland from 21 to 24 January 2020, The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in collaboration with AB InBev renewed its collaboration to continue to “Strengthening Road Safety - A partnership to build capacity, drive innovation and deliver meaningful impact”.
The partnership is aligned to the call from the United Nations General Assembly during its seventy-fourth session[1] in which invited all relevant stakeholders, international organizations, development banks and funding agencies, foundations, professional associations and private sector companies to scale up funding in support of road safety”. At the same time, the General Assembly approved 12 voluntary global performance targets for road safety risk factors and encouraged Member States to take steps, towards achieving those targets. The General Assembly also requested the United Nations system, to support Member States to help them achieve global targets.
During 2020-2021, UNITAR and AB InBev will join forces to collectively advance Road Safety given the significant need for accelerated and innovative action to create change in this field. This joint initiative aims to assist governments in around the world to identify high-risk roads, design corrective measures and make improvements in infrastructure planning, design, and construction - for the benefit of all road users, especially the most vulnerable.
The collaboration between UNITAR and AB InBev through 2021 not only aims to accelerate the impact and scale of interventions at national and local levels, but also test new technologies using artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, and simulation programmes to save lives.
