20 April 2022, New York, USA. - The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General, Executive Director of UNITAR Mr. Nikhil Seth has made an official visit to New York from 18 to 25 April 2022 to lead important meetings at the United Nations Headquarters and meet with the Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Chef de Cabinet of the Secretary-General Courtenay Rattray, President of the General Assembly Mr. Abdulla Shahid, President of ECOSOC Ambassador Collen Kelapile, Under Secretary-Generals Vladimir Voronkov, Rosemary DiCarlo, and Alexandre Zouev, as well as other principals from across the UN system and UN Missions.
04 April 2022, New York, United States (Virtual) – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York office, kickstarted the two-day presentations of the workshop titled, “Elections to UN Organs: Workshop for Election Officers”. Garnering 132 participants from around the world, this workshop successfully enhanced the understanding of election procedures and processes among participating election officers, and equipped participants with the tools to identify opportunities for candidatures, and provided election officers with insights into successful campaigning.

31 March 2022, New York, United States (Virtual) – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York office, in partnership with the Columbia Law School Mediation Clinic, continued the three-event Spring 2022 presentations of the Columbia Law School Series with the second session entitled “Negotiation Fundamentals for Diplomatic Leadership”. The session gathered over 200 participants from around the world and covered the topic of navigating negotiations and asking the right questions to achieve desired goals and outcomes.
10 March 2022, New York, United States (Virtual) – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York office, in partnership with the Columbia Law School Mediation Clinic, kickstarted the three-event Spring 2022 presentations of the Columbia Law School Series with the first session titled, “Women and Negotiation: How to Be Your Own Ultimate Self-Advocate”. Garnering over 120 participants from around the world, the event successfully highlighted the struggles faced by women in the workplace, and how best to combat gender inequality in social settings and the workspace. The goal of this first session in the 2022 Columbia Law School Series was to underscore the tangible benefits in advocating for one’s self, highlight the gendered differences that can arise in the workplace, and show how to ask for more.
7 March 2022, New York, USA, Virtual - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) together with the Navarre University from Spain, hosted a virtual roundtable on sustainable development goal 5 (SDG5) into environmental policies and practices. This event marked the International Women’s Day 2022 and the preparation for the 66th Commission of the Status of Women (CSW66).
26 - 27 January 2022, New York, USA by virtual- The United Nations Institute for Training and Research New York office (UNITAR NYO), and the office for Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), hosted the annual orientation course on the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It took place in an online format attracting over 200 delegates and officials from Permanent Missions and the UN Secretariat, as well as officials working from capitals.
10 January 2022, New York, USA – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in partnership with the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA), successfully launched its flagship initiative, the 2022 President of the General Assembly Fellowship for HOPE (Harnessing Opportunities for Promoting Empowerment of Youth) on 10 January 2022. As envisioned by H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, President of the 76th General Assembly, and his Presidency of Hope, this Fellowship programme aims to promote youth engagement in multilateralism and support the next generation of diplomats, particularly from underrepresented countries (LDCs, LLDCs, SIDS) at the United Nations, while also ensuring geographical representation and gender balance.
14 December 2021, New York, USA - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with the Global Foundation for the Performing Arts (GFPA), successfully hosted Building Resilience Through Hope, a piano recital in Carnegie Hall on the night of December 9th, 2021. Costa Rica, the Republic of Maldives, the Principality of Monaco, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Singapore have jointly sponsored the event. More than one thousand people with valid vaccination proof have attended the piano recital.
8-15 November 2021, New York, USA - The UNITAR New York office organized a six day private online workshop, "Practical Preparation for Membership of the United Nations Security Council," for the Brazilian delegation of 25 diplomats to the Permanent Mission in New York and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With vast experience of working with the Council, Brazil secured 181 out of 190 votes cast during the election of the five non-permanent members to the Security Council (SC), and will serve a two-year term from January 2022 to December 2023. Brazil is a founding member of the United Nations and was present at the San Francisco Conference in 1945. With this new election, it will have served the Council eleven times since 1946.
17 November 2021, New York, USA - The second session of the “Leadership & Self-Awareness Programme” took place with the collaboration of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and Columbia Law School. This session was attended by approximately 210 participants and focused on self-awareness and how it feeds directly into the kind of leadership exercised in organizations.
