16 July 2024, New York City, United States of America – UNITAR’s Global Water Academy (UGWA) co-hosted its official side event at the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) with York University entitled ‘Pathways to Resilience: Advancing Solutions for Global Freshwater Quality’. This UGWA HLPF side event explored the multilateral and environmental drivers that exacerbated the deterioration of the quality of global freshwaters.

24 June 2024, Geneva, Switzerland - In an effort to address the global crisis in access to safe and affordable surgical care, the United Nations Global Surgery Learning Hub (SURGhub) was launched in June 2023. This open-access platform aims to equip the current and future surgical workforce with lifesaving skills. A particular focus is laid on the workforce in low-resource settings.

20 June 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – On Monday 24 June 2024, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction Mr. Kamal Kishore and UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR Mr. Nikhil Seth have launched capacity development products on risk analysis.

31 May 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR’s Global Water Academy (UGWA) proudly hosted the side event entitled, ‘Blueprints for Prosperity: Building Resilience for SIDS Through the Blue Economy’ at the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) in collaboration with York University as UGWA Academic leads, and UGWA partners IRC Wash.

31 May 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR, Africa CDC, and Empower School of Health hosted a side event at The World Health Assembly. The event, held at UNITAR Headquarters, featured a panel discussion on the challenges faced by Africa in workforce development for health products manufacturing, and the importance of addressing these issues while proposing solutions.

24 May 2024, Shanghai, China – The “Autosobriety Training Camp” aims to enhance participants’ knowledge about the dangers of drinking and driving by learning and testing. It consists of a dedicated digital training platform for college students to provide them with essential knowledge related to the topics of drinking and driving, alcohol and the law in China and ways for preventing drink-driving.

21 May 2024, Bali, Indonesia – UNITAR’s Global Water Academy (UGWA) proudly hosted the side event entitled ‘Enhancing Transboundary Water Management and SDGs: A Collaborative Approach’ in collaboration with CIFAL Singapore (Nanyang Technological Institute), and CIFAL Bangkok (Asian Institute of Technology) at the World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali, Indonesia.

2 May 2024, Mérida, Mexico – The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Merida (CIFAL Merida) successfully concluded its XIX international seminar on hurricane preparedness, bringing together decision-makers from airports in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean. A key objective of the seminar was to analyze and review emergency plans before the hurricane season to ensure that airports remain operational if impacted by a disaster.
