13 February 2020, Geneva, Switzerland- As part of the 12th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) summit, the Marketplace on migration initiatives took place from 21 to 23 January 2020, as a ‘matchmaking mechanism’ between those facing specific policy and practice issues and those providing targeted solutions in migration and development.

4-6 February 2020, Stirling, United Kingdom – For three days, 26 Masters in Diplomacy and Human Rights students from the University of Stirling welcomed five UNITAR staff members, including the director of the Multilateral Diplomacy Division, Mr. Rabih Haddad, who provided their extensive knowledge on a range of issues related to the architecture of Human Rights institutions within the UN system, as well as the UN mission and hiring mechanism.

16-17 December 2019, Nairobi, Kenya – A group of 26 officials from various ministries engaged in a two-day UNITAR training workshop with the aim of improving their skills and knowledge in the field of maritime law and international dispute settlement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

21 – 24 January 2020, Abuja, Nigeria - In the bid to strengthen the capacities of key stakeholders in Nigeria, particularly government officials and relevant organizations, on how to deliver their mandate effectively and make more positive developmental impact, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) with the support of the Norwegian Government through Embassy of Norway organized a 4-day Collaborative Leadership Training cum-Seminar recently in Abuja.

24 January 2020, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Center for Global Surgery (CGS), McGill University Health Care (MUHC), signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed within the context of the activities of the Global Surgery Platform at UNITAR, which was recently presented at a special event during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

20 January 2020, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is pleased to announce the official launch of the Global Surgery Foundation (GSF) at the upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2020 in Davos, Switzerland. The launch will take place at a special lunch-event, hosted by Brand South Africa on Wednesday, 22 January 2020 at the Brand SA Pavilion.

When Lu’isa Uai Taunga, an officer with the National Emergency Management Office in the Kingdom of Tonga, participated in the UNITAR Disaster Risk Reduction Training which wrapped up in November 2017, she left with renewed energy and ideas for new initiatives to prepare her community in the island group of Ha’apai in the event of a disaster.
