UNITAR held an online public event “Nuclear Weapon Abolishment and a Sustainable Future – A Call from Hiroshima” to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Hiroshima atomic bombing.
Co-organizers for the event were the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), Hiroshima Prefecture, and the Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe).

The Green Legacy Hiroshima Initiative (GLH) welcomed five prominent plant scientists and experts to observe and study hibakujumoku, atomic-bombing survivor trees.
GLH aims to disseminate worldwide the message of peace and the many green legacies of the hibakujumoku.
The Initiative, established in 2011, currently works with close to 130 partners in 40 countries.

2 August 2022, Hiroshima, Japan – 6 August 2022 marks 77 years since an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. To commemorate the day, youth from across Japan will have a heart-to-heart talk with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, about their ideas and solutions for achieving a peaceful, more secure and sustainable world – one without nuclear weapons.
