元国際原子力機関（IAEA）核検証・安全保障政策課長のタリク・ラウフ氏が、核兵器禁止条約発効についてのメッセージを寄せてくれました。ラウフ氏は、国連ユニタール持続可能な繁栄局/広島事務所が2015年から実施している核軍縮・不拡散のための研修事業の講師を務めており、本年度はオンラインでの研修を3月に予定しています。, 2021年1月21日・オーストリア、ウィーン － 核兵器開発および使用から約75年が経過した2021年1月22日の夜明けとともに、核兵器禁止条約が発効し、新時代の幕開けを迎える。
2020年10月24日、ホンジュラス共和国の批准により核兵器禁止条約 (TPNW) の批准国が50か国となり、90日後の2021年１月22日に条約が発効されることとなった。同条約は、2017年に加盟国の過半数を上回る約130の国と地域が賛成し、ニューヨークの国連本部で採択されたものである。
1946年1月24日の第1回国連総会で採択された決議第1号である核兵器および大量破壊兵器の廃絶を求めた決議がようやく実現する。
2021年の核兵器禁止条約発効により、1975年に禁止された生物兵器 (BTWC)、1997年に禁止された化学兵器 (CWC) と並び、3つの大量破壊兵器の開発や使用等が禁止されることとなる。

2021年2月26日・広島 ― 国連ユニタール広島事務所と国連ユニタール協会は、第9回 Ideas That Matterシリーズ「日本のジェンダー感覚－リーダーシップを目指して」の公開セミナーを3月8日に開催します。より良い意思決定、政策立案、法整備などのためには、女性の視点や経験、スキルが欠かせません。持続可能な開発目標（SDGs）の目標５「ジェンダーの平等の実現」の中に、「政治、経済、公共分野でのあらゆるレベルの意思決定において、完全かつ効果的な女性の参画及び平等なリーダーシップの機会を確保する」とあります。
しかしながら、世界経済フォーラム（WEF）が発表した「ジェンダーギャップ指数2020」によると、日本は153か国中121位という結果でした。この不名誉な結果の大きな要因は、政治・経済分野における大臣・管理職レベルの女性割合の低さにあります。
本セミナーでは、学術界やNPOで要職を歴任されてきた広島経済大学の上田みどり名誉教授にご自身の経験を共有していただくとともに、女性と男性がともにリーダーシップをとっていく社会に向けた展望を探ります。

Innovative capacity development approach combines technology, mapping and academic knowledge in Chad
Since earlier in 2012 UNITAR/UNOSAT and the Swiss Development Cooperation are engaged in implementing a water management and capacity development project in Chad. This project, also known with its francophone name of “ResEAU”, has the ambitious aim of strengthening national capacity in the area of water resources by using mapping combined with capacity development techniques tailored to the local requirements and designed together with Swiss and Chadian partners.
