Record IDP Area Mapping by UNOSAT
20 July 2017, Geneva, Switzerland – UNOSAT recently undertook the analysis of the largest area in its IDPs mapping histoy. 13 February 2018 – Workshop III of the UNITAR Hiroshima Office Iraq Fellowship Programme came to a successful conclusion in Hiroshima. Cyclone Giri hit western Rakhine state in Myanmar packing winds of up to 177km/h, hitting the major town of Kayaukpyu among other locations. Although it is difficult to estimate casualties and damage, local authorities have confirmed that 101,923 people remain homeless and at least 20,380 houses have been destroyed. Hiroshima – At 8h15, on the morning of Monday 6 August 1945, the city of Hiroshima was destroyed by a single atomic bomb. Code-named ‘Little Boy’ the bomb exploded 600 meters above the city center, burning alive tens of thousands of people at first impact.
