The recent visit of the Secretary-General to the UNOSAT team set the tone of the new management phase at UNOSAT, which is now a recognised centre of excellence within the United Nations system in the areas of satellite analysis and geospatial information. While the visit of the Secretary-General confirms this recognition and is a reward to the staff, it also shows the gradual gain of importance of satellite derived information for the work of the UN. Dr Nassrine Azimi is a founding director of the UNITAR Hiroshima Office
While Dr. Azimi was Chief of the UNITAR New York, she was approached by a Japanese academic with an idea to establish an office in Hiroshima. With the support of Hiroshima Prefecture, it was realized and she became the first director there.
Since then, UNITAR has been bringing learners from developing countries to the heart of the city, next to the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima.
Looking to the next 20 years, Dr. Azimi hopes that UNITAR will help rebuild that missing link...
UNITAR Division for Prosperity launched its new training programme “Bolstering livelihoods: Digital reskilling for Ukrainian women evacuees in Poland” on 16 October 2023 at an event in Warsaw.
Guests included government officials, programme partners, academic institutions, NGOs and a participant of the new training.
The training programme will run from October 2023 to March 2024. Close to 1000 Ukrainian women evacuees in Poland have applied.

This self-paced course has been developed by UNITAR and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). A number of countries have attempted to better link their budgeting with the SDGs and national planning overall, however, the progress is uneven.
