UNITAR Board meets as budget reaches historical landmark

CERN has hosted UNOSAT, the Operational Satellite Applications Programme of UNITAR, since 2002. With the renewal of the hosting agreement in December 2008, this relationship increased in quality, evolving from a hosting arrangement to the beginning of a promising partnership leading to joint projects.

Consistent with UNITAR’s strategic vision of leveraging new information and communication technologies for training and outreach, UNITAR’s Public Finance and Trade Programme focuses on training, skills building and cross-fertilization of information among officials in themes relating to public finance, financial governance, trade and intellectual property using internet-based e-Learning.

UNITAR’s Climate Change Programme has received a grant of CAD 175,275 (USD 145,000) from The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada to support the activities of five pilot projects in Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Africa in 2009.

Since 2005, UNITAR supports this process through the Migration and Development Seminar Series at United Nations Headquarters. The Series is implemented in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the MacArthur Foundation.

On the 8th of December, UNITAR signed a new cooperation framework in
information technologies with the European Organization for Nuclear
Research, CERN . In signing this agreement, UNITAR intends to develop the
long standing and fruitful collaboration that its operational satellite
applications programme "UNOSAT" already had with CERN. Thanks to this
