A UNITAR training course to develop capacities of Kenyan diplomats was launched on Monday in Nairobi, Kenya. The course is an initiative of the Kenyan Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and benefits 38 junior and mid-career diplomats. Five UNITAR trainers will work with the diplomats over the next two weeks to impart knowledge and skills in the field of conference diplomacy and negotiations, on topics ranging from preparation, drafting, negotiation, effective interventions, and chairmanship to conference processes and reporting. The workshop was opened by Ambassador Ben Ogutu, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Kipyego Cheluget, Director of the Foreign Service Institute. The participants are in residence for two weeks at the Kenya Institute of Administration.
