The 2009 Report of the UN Secretary-General to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on UNITAR is now available. The Report highlitghts the major strategic reforms undertaken by the Institute and recommends that UNITAR plays an important role in the overall effort to ensure more efficient service provision for training and research in the United Nations System.

Today, UNITAR resumes its core diplomatic training targeting the Nairobi-based diplomatic community with the organization of an intensive, two-day workshop on negotiation skills. More than twenty diplomats are taking part in the activity, which includes short presentations, role plays, simulation exercises and video analysis. The recently-held 2009 UNITAR Regional Training was organized in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Thirty eight mid and senior-level government officials, senior advisors to presidents and prime ministers, as well as African Union and UN peace operation staff on the continent took part. Participants engaged in conflict analysis, negotiation and mediation simulations. Case studies examined peacemaking processes in Somalia, Sudan and other regions.
