19 April 2012, Paris, France - UNITAR Board Chair and Executive Director will discuss the challenges of regional integration in Africa within the framework of one of the round tables organized by the journal Géopolitique africaine as part of the “Books and Authors of the Congo Basin region” booth at the 2012 Paris Book Fair.
Within its Geneva-based training offer, UNOSAT has completed in February 2012 a professional training for 6 Officers of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). UNOSAT training modules on rapid mapping and satellite analysis are well known both in Geneva and in several countries, but this was the first time that Human Rights Officers were hosted in the UNOSAT training facility based at CERN.
Bangkok, Thailand, 7 March 2012 – The National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) of Thailand and UNITAR signed in late 2011 a joint agreement to promote training and capacity building for the development of a nano-safety pilot project in Thailand, financially supported by the Government of Switzerland. The 18-month project will include the following activities:
UNITAR’s Multilateral Diplomacy Programme (MDP) will launch a new e-learning course on Overcoming Negotiation Deadlocks running 21 May - 18 June 2012.
2 March 2012, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Human Rights Council received today the report of the Independent Commission of Inquiry on Libya. The report illustrates the findings of the Commission regarding the situation of human rights in Libya during the recent conflict.
February 2012, Geneva, Switzerland - Another innovative project involving collaborative mapping and cyberscience will see the light this year thanks to support from the Open Society Foundations. The Foundations, established by George Soros, have the mission “to increase public access to knowledge, facilitate civil society communication, and protect civil liberties and the freedom to communicate in the digital environment.” 
9 February 2012, Hiroshima, Japan - Mayor of Hiroshima Kazumi Matsui had a first meeting with members of the Green Legacy Hiroshima (GLH), led by Tomoko Watanabe and Nassrine Azimi. The Mayor expressed his love of trees and his full support to the initiative.
February 2012, Geneva, Switzerland - The new application, called “CyberMappr”, has been developed within the Citizen Cyberscience Centre (CCC), created by UNITAR, CERN and University of Geneva as an incubator of new tools involving citizen-to-citizen cyberscience. CyberMappr uses the internet to connect volunteers to each other and to a group of expert analysts at UNOSAT with one common mission.
February 2012, Tirana, Albania – A Mid-term Review Workshop and a National Chemicals Management Database Planning Meeting was held in Albania on 9-10 February 2012, under the framework of a national project for the implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).
