18 June 2013, Geneva, Switzerland - UNITAR announces two upcoming e-Learning courses on the topics of cosmopolitan communication and mediation skills.

Cosmopolitan Communication: Connecting across Diplomats, Business Leaders and Civil Society Actors

As a result of the globalisation process, individuals and organizations constantly need to be engaged in developing their intercultural competences in order to operate effectively in a multilateral setting and avoid barriers and prejudices in negotiation and mediation processes. Moreover, the understanding of cultural differences enhances the interactions within international relations and consequently brings more constructive outcomes.

UNITAR’s upcoming e-learning course on cosmopolitan communication will enhance participants' cross-cultural communication competences in order to allow them to operate effectively in a multilateral setting and avoid barriers, misunderstandings, and prejudices in negotiation and mediation processes.

Mediation Skills

The United Nations plays a unique role in the management and resolution of international conflicts. The organization successfully negotiates and implements many of the settlements that have ended some of the most protracted conflicts in the world. By improving their mediation skills and developing an understanding of the UN’s role in the mediation process, diplomats will be better equipped to prevent and manage international disputes.

UNITAR’s upcoming e-learning course on mediation skills aims to improve the practical skills of actors in international mediation and in understanding the role of the UN in resolving conflicts. The course will offer insights into mediation processes, assessing the process of gaining entry into a mediation initiative and examining the early and later stages of mediation.
