23 - 24 January 2019, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China – UNITAR, in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) successfully held the Learning Conference “Implementing the 2030 Agenda in the Asia-Pacific Region” in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, on the 23rd and 24th of January 2019. The conference was attended by more than 95 participants, including government officials leading the SDGs process in their countries, diplomats, international civil servants as well as university professors. 23 countries were represented in this event, with many participants coming from Small Island Developing States (SIDS), thus, providing different perspectives and experiences regarding the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
13 December 2018, Geneva, Switzerland – As part of their journey around the world to promote the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Mr. Juan Pablo Caroli and Mr. Nicolas Caroli visited Geneva, Switzerland and the United Nations European Headquarters. During their visit, the Caroli brothers toured UNITAR and the Palais des Nations, meeting with UN officials, including Ms. Alessandra Vellucci, Director of the UN Information Service in Geneva, to spread the word about their unique project.

Thirty-three female peacemakers from across the continent took part in UNITAR’s intensive two-week Training Programme Strengthening the Capacities of African Women Peacemakers conducted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Building upon the annual UNITAR regional training organized for senior and mid-level officials and peace mission staff in Africa, this requested programme was the first dedicated training for women peacemakers from every region deepening knowledge and strengthening skills in conflict analysis, interest-based negotiation and mediation, dialogue and reconciliation processes.

On 2 April 2018, UNITAR is kicking off its first ever bottom-up crowdfunding campaign, UNITAR Peace Funder, which enables selected professionals from all regions of the world to enhance their applicable knowledge and technical skills, further consolidating their ability to act as peacebuilders and changemakers.
23-26 January 2018, Lumban, Laguna, Philippines - As part of its continuing partnership with the local government of Quezon City, CIFAL Philippines facilitated an SDG Orientation and Strategic Planning Workshop for the city’s Migration and Development (M&D) Council from the 23rd to the 26th of January.
3 June, 2016, Hiroshima, Japan – The UNITAR Hiroshima Office has successfully concluded the 2nd annual cycle of the training series on Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation held between 30 May – 3 June, 2016. The week-long workshop welcomed diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 5 different countries, including Bangladesh, Mongolia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, with 70% of the participants being female. The participants examined the current state of the nuclear disarmament debate, while better understanding the structure and practice of negotiation at non-proliferation discourse events and further developing their negotiation and leadership skills.
22 April 2016, Hiroshima, Japan - The UNITAR Hiroshima Office has successfully concluded the 13th annual cycle of its highly regarded training series on the Management and Conservation of World Heritage Sites. Held between 18-22 April, the week-long workshop brought participants from nine countries together to examine the expectations and requirements needed to effectively prepare a World Heritage nomination, with a particular focus on the justification for inscription.
