27 February 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – Eighteen participants from nine countries will participate in the second phase of UNITAR Hiroshima Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction Training Programme for World Tsunami Awareness Day. The training will be held in person in Samoa from 7–11 March 2023. This is the first time UNITAR Division for Prosperity will hold workshops in Samoa and is also the first time in two years that the DRR Programme will have in-person learning.
27 February 2023, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have launched a Call for Applications for their joint online course on Trade and Food Security which will take place from May 28 to June 22, 2023. The course will be facilitated by experts and delivered fully in Arabic language in an asynchronous manner.
27 February 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – Professor Akiko Yuge, a member of the UNITAR Board of Trustees, visited the UNITAR Division for Prosperity, Hiroshima Office to observe the in-person nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation training of 18 government officials from Asian foreign affairs and defence authorities.
27 February 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – Forty-eight high school students from Hiroshima took part in the 2022 UNITAR Hiroshima Youth Ambassador Training Programme in July and August 2022. The annual programme was launched in 2010 and aims to nurture young leaders for the future. This year’s theme was “Building a sustainable city where people can live 100 years from now”. The Youth Ambassadors were encouraged to connect the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to their daily lives and to think of solutions to the world’s pressing issues.
23 February 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – The year 2023 marks 20 years since the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Hiroshima Office was established. We thank our alumni, partners, and resource persons who supported us over the years so UNITAR could deliver innovative learning to individuals, organizations and institutions in least-developed countries, conflict and post-conflict states and fragile states. We also engage with our community in Hiroshima and other people living in Japan.

16 February 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity will hold the first in-person workshop in Japan for Great Ideas Space: Entrepreneurship for Public Health and COVID-19 Recovery in Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon. The programme trains entrepreneurs and founders of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) so they have greater knowledge, skills and networks to develop and run business projects that address challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and contribute to building a resilient health sector in their communities.
Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Training Programme In-Person Workshop Resumes in Hiroshima
9 February 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity/Hiroshima Office will resume its in-person Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (NDNP) Training Programme in Hiroshima, Japan. The UNITAR programme gives diplomats detailed insights into the protocols and procedures of disarmament and non-proliferation conferences – such as the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) Review Conference and meetings on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons – and builds their communication and negotiation skills.
