10 March 2024, Jeju, South Korea – the International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders In Jeju (CIFAL Jeju) is pleased to announce its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2024 Progress report. The publication is centred on the 2024 theme “Inventive Minds, Sustainable Solutions: Driving SDG Achievements in the Asia-Pacific" as the activities and theme underscore CIFAL Jeju’s consistent commitment to transform communities with innovative approaches to build a more inclusive and resilient future for all.
CIFAL Jeju was established in 2010 and continues to grow. Their significant work in the Asia-Pacific region has spread awareness of the SDGs and improved livelihoods across sustainable development fields. CIFAL Jeju created innovative training events in response to key global priorities including skill development workshops, expert-led seminars, and youth engagement initiatives, dually contributing to local priorities and SDG alignment.
CIFAL Jeju Highlights in Statistics:
- In 2024, 6,622 beneficiaries participated in 23 interactive events.
- 215 ~ 3,000 participants attended online training workshops and expert-led seminars, while each in-person workshop and forum had up to 40 participants.
- 157 countries were represented across all activities.
CIFAL Jeju Highlights in Programmes
Theme: Social Inclusion
CIFAL Jeju co-designed career pathways for individuals with disabilities, creating new possibilities to thrive in their communities. The interactive virtual workshop hosted 215 participants from 31 countries, building capacity for accessible design, professional skills, and advocacy resources. Together with international experts, participants were empowered with the necessary knowledge for social inclusion and skills for livelihood development to build their futures.
Theme: Environmental Sustainability
CIFAL Jeju hosted an online workshop on disaster risk reduction, with an audience of 2,925 participants from 149 countries globally. The workshop, titled “Disaster Risk Reduction and Early Warning Systems for All through Effective Gender-Responsive Planning, Digital Government Transformation and Financing”, helped equip participants with the knowledge and skills to operate early warning systems. Experts introduced innovative policy and technology tools in addition to direct guidance on strengthening local capacity to respond to emergencies.
Theme: Global Citizenship Education: Youth Engagement
Echoing the sentiments of the Summit of the Future in 2024, CIFAL Jeju provided meaningful platforms to engage youth in critical decision-making processes. A shining example of their efforts is the “Jeju International Future Generations Forum”, which brought together 30 youth leaders across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss their visions, priorities, and intergenerational collaboration to achieve common goals in the 2030 Agenda.
The CIFAL Jeju 2024 SDG progress report summarizes the work and efforts of CIFAL Jeju to contribute towards the commitments of the Pact of the Future, and accelerating progress towards the SDGs. In alignment with the UN ‘Pact of the Future’ action lines, CIFAL Jeju designed capacity-building training events to actively engage youth and Artificial Intelligence frontiers in sustainable development decisions, exploring cross-cutting priorities with direct impacts on future generations. Over the years CIFAL Jeju has produced long-standing social and economic benefits through training and research initiatives, pioneering pathways for cross-sector collaboration, with an important legacy in Jeju and global engagement.
