27 November 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity welcomed Ms Jaehyang (Jae) So to its Advisory Board, effective November 2023. Ms. So is the Chair of the Technical Committee of the Global Water Partnership, a global action network with over 3,000 partner organizations in 179 countries. She worked for 30 years at the World Bank Group on a range of development topics, including infrastructure, water, urban development, gender and public-private partnerships.

Ms So was awarded the Republic of Korea Prime Minister Citation for the Promotion of Gender Equality in 2017 and was an honorary Sustainable Development Goal Professor of the Ban Ki-Moon Centre at Yonsei University. Her extensive knowledge and expertise in partnership building will help enhance the training programmes in the Division.

Ms So looks forward to her role on the advisory board to support the delivery of highly needed capacity-building programmes around the world.

ABOUT MS. JAEHYANG SO

Ms. Jaehyang So is the Chair of the Technical Committee of the Global Water Partnership, a global action network with over 3,000 partner organizations in 179 countries.

Ms. So worked for 30 years at the World Bank Group on a range of development topics from infrastructure, water and urban development to gender and public-private partnerships. As Director of Trust Funds and Partnerships, she strengthened the World Bank’s corporate and fiduciary management by reforming and simplifying the policy and transactional framework for US$45 billion in external funds under management. Ms So was the architect of the World Bank’s Public-Private Infrastructure Database, an innovative product which serves as the global leader in the sector.

Ms. So was an honorary Sustainable Development Goal Professor of the Ban Ki-Moon Centre, Institute of Global Engagement and Empowerment, Yonsei University. She advised the launch of the Global Center on Adaptation and served on the boards of the Global Water Challenge and the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council. In 2017, she was awarded the Republic of Korea Prime Minister Citation for the Promotion of Gender Equality.

Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Ms. So worked at Monitor Company in Massachusetts, advising Fortune 100–level companies on corporate strategy in Canada, Europe, Japan and the United States. She holds an MBA and a BA in Economics from Stanford University.
