24 January 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – On this International Day of Education, UNITAR underscores its commitment to education as a human right and a driving force for global development. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4, we strive for inclusive and equitable quality education by 2030.
Education stands as the cornerstone of UNITAR's 60-year history, reflecting our dedication to shaping leaders of the future. Established in 1963 during a period marked by hope and a shared vision for international collaboration, UNITAR emerged with a unique purpose — to enhance the effectiveness of the United Nations through training, and research. Today, our global impact is evident as learners from all 193 UN Member States engage in diverse learning programmes, aligning with our mission to support individuals and organizations in enhancing decision making and supporting country-level action for overcoming global challenges. This commitment underlines our belief in the transformative power of training and learning to drive positive change on a global scale.
Our commitment to leaving no one behind
We continuously strive to make our offerings more accessible, including through opportunities like the newly launched Pura Vida Fellowship Programme. In collaboration with the University for Peace (UPEACE), we are delighted to introduce this new programme, which will provide nationals of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) with the ability to enrol in one of our joint Master or Certificate Programmes, as well as our Field Visits, where students can study and experience diplomacy and international law first-hand, with tuition fees covered.
By offering these fellowships, UNITAR and its partners strive to empower individuals from underrepresented regions with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute significantly to the fields of peace and development. Through this collaborative effort, we aim to foster a global community of professionals committed to building a more equitable and peaceful world through education.
