The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) launched a new initiative to support climate-resilient livelihood development in Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe during the bilateral meeting in Geneva between the BADEA Director General Mr. Sidi Ould Tah and UNITAR's Executive Director Mr. Nikhil Seth.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries (ITTLLDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support capacity development needs of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs).

21 June 2022, Geneva, Switzerland - On 16 May 2022, the Humanitarian Energy Conference (HEC) was held at the Kigali Marriott Hotel in Rwanda, convening over 200 people representing more than 100 organizations. The HEC provided the humanitarian energy community with an opportunity to reflect on progress and persisting challenges on the overarching vision of achieving sustainable energy for all refugees and hosting communities. Stakeholders engaged in the conference included government officials, UN agencies, International NGOs, private companies, academics, and other practitioners from the energy, development and humanitarian sectors. The speakers and attendees voiced the need for improving energy access for displaced people and their host communities around the world. Throughout the conference, expert practitioners shared critical insights and best practices on how to achieve SDG7 in displacement settings. The humanitarian energy community highlighted the need for immediate action on improving access to energy for all displaced people and their host communities.

17 June 2022, Bridgetown, Barbados – In the framework of the 10th IRF Caribbean Regional Congress “A Roadmap to a Safe and Resilient Road System” between 7 and 10 June 2022, UNITAR in collaboration with the International Road Federation and AB InBev offered a training workshop on "Management Practices for Safer Roads", and an executive session on “Diagnosing and Treating Road Injury Risk”. The Congress gathered more than 250 professionals from 32 countries, including 11 Ministers of Transport, and provided useful tools and learnings to regional challenges of road safety and climate-resilient infrastructure.

June 2022, Hiroshima, Japan – “It’s not enough to search for connections with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have to put the SDGs to use and update our principles and policies to reflect them,” says Cosmo Takagaki, Project Research Associate at Keio University and Research Associate of United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability. Cosmo has been a lecturer for the UNITAR Hiroshima Youth Ambassador Program since 2020, and is active as an advisor on the Sustainable Development Goals.

10 June 2022, Geneva, Switzerland - On Saturday 15th January, the ongoing volcanic eruption of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai triggered a tsunami across the Pacific. Karen Melnychuck and her sister Laura Jarosz contacted the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) with a plea to help them with any information on the island where their mother lived.

A new self-paced Massive Open Online Course "Develop and Implement Science, Technology, and Innovation for SDGs Roadmaps - Level I" was developed by UNDESA and UNITAR to support UN Member States in developing and implementing STI for SDGs Roadmaps as well as attracting global assistance in doing so.
