UNITAR

In its continued effort to encourage and promote the voices of young women in the peace and security field, UNITAR has developed the She Leads for Peace Summer School, an innovative programme specifically tailored towards young women seeking to situate their career objectives as well as passions in the wider sustaining peace ecosystem. The She Leads for Peace Summer School is rooted in the main themes and teachings of the Women's Leadership for Peace Programme as well as the understanding that gender shapes young people’s opportunities, actions, and pathways. The She Leads for Peace Summer School is a space in which young women can share their experiences with fellow participants and guest speakers to create a community of belonging that extends beyond the course. Leveraging peer-to-peer learning and intergenerational dialogue, the programme encourages knowledge sharing on best practices in peacebuilding, personal development, career development, well-being, and resilience.

In August 2022 and 2023, UNITAR welcomed a global cohort of 24 women leaders in International Geneva, helping them to begin their leadership journey with the self-awareness and confidence required to lead for peace. UNITAR provides participants with an opportunity to explore their leadership style and gain clarity about their leadership journeys through unique insights provided by International Geneva - focusing on experiencing the wider contexts of working in this field with a focus on the UN and other organizations present in the Geneva ecosystem.

Hear from our Participants

This course has truly been a transformative experience, shaping my perspective and approach to global challenges. I am immensely grateful for everyone’s dedication and expertise in nurturing future leaders for a more harmonious world. As I move forward, I am excited to apply these newfound skills and insights to contribute meaningfully to the cause of peace and diplomacy. - Participant of She Leads for Peace Summer School 2023

Learning alongside excellent peers from diverse global backgrounds, exploring women's leadership over perspectives of authenticity, well-being and so on, and meeting exceptional women leaders from UNICEF, International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC UN Women, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, SHE Changes Climate and more was truly inspiring. Here's to embracing the lessons and connections gained, as we strive for a more inclusive and peaceful world. - Participant of She Leads for Peace Summer School 2023
