OUAGADOUGOU -- On 31 March 2010, United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Municipality of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso inaugurated the new headquarters of the International Training Center for Local Actors (CIFAL Ouagadougou). On 11 – 16 September, Armenian authorities in collaboration with NATO and the international humanitarian community carried out a major exercise based on an earthquake scenario simulation. The drill featured a scenario with a simulated 7.2 Richter Scale quake in the Kotayk region in the Republic of Armenia. This included both real field deployment and a virtual command and coordination set up. 19 November 2012, Tokyo, Japan - The UNITAR Diplomatic Training Series in Tokyo, run by the UNITAR Hiroshima Office, recently concluded its fourth session. A recent review of UNOSAT activities has revealed a substantial increase in requests directed to UNOSAT by the humanitarian community.
