23 January 2020, New York, U.S.A – The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office kicked of its year of trainings for 2020 organizing jointly with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) a one-day orientation course for the members of the Council. This activity is supported with funding allocated from the Swedish International Development Agency’s (SIDA) contribution to the UNITAR Strategic Framework Fund and hosted in the United Nations Headquarters in Conference Room 8.

13 December 2019, New York, USA - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office concluded training for December 12th-13th, 2019, titled “Practical Preparations for Membership in The United Nations Security Council” for the Permanent Mission of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as well as the Permanent Mission of Vietnam. The training which was made possible through the support from the Swedish International Development Agency’s (Sida) towards the UNITAR Strategic Framework Fund (SFF), included sessions titled “Formal and Informal Council meetings, and relations between the Council and the Assembly”, and “Charter Considerations, Subsidiary Organs, Council Documentation, and the Presidency”.

11 December 2019, New York, USA- The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office kicked off a joint training for newly elected members of the Security Council from the Permanent Mission of Vietnam and the Permanent Mission of St. Vincent and the Grenadines ahead of the 2020-2021 period. This training was made possible through the support from the Swedish International Development Agency’s (Sida) towards the UNITAR Strategic Framework Fund (SFF) and holds from the 11th - 13th of December 2019 at the Commonwealth Conference Room.

5 November 2019, New York, USA - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office held a afternoon follow-up training session, as an extension of the October training course titled, “Training for New Delegates of the Permanent Mission of Sudan to the United Nations” at the Permanent Mission of Sudan to the United Nations.

4 - 5 November 2019, Lima, Peru - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office participated in the “X Virtual Educa Multilateral Forum” within the framework of the XXI Virtual Educa Peru meeting, represented by UNITAR Head of New York Office, Mr. Marco A. Suazo, who serves as president of the Advisory Council of Virtual Educa.

31 October 2019, New York, USA - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office concluded its first training titled, “Practical Preparation for Membership in the United Nations Security Council” the Permanent Mission of Tunisia. The training, which took place over six days, began on October 21st and concluded on October 29th, 2019. In addition to the standard Security Council trainings, the Tunisian Mission requested additional courses on counter-terrorism, peace keeping operations and interactions with the press and media.

23 October 2019, New York, USA – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research’s (UNITAR) New York Office kicked off the first of a series of workshops that will be held for the newly elected members of the Security Council for the 2020-20201 period: Tunisia, Niger, Vietnam, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Estonia.

18 October 2019, New York, USA – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the United Nations, B4 Development, and Generation Amazing, hosted an event on using behavioral insights and sports in preventing violent extremism. The event took place in Conference Room 6 at UN Headquarters on 18 October 2019.
