28 June 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – In partnership with Indonesia Youth Diplomacy (IYD), UNITAR Division for Prosperity initiated “EmpowerASEAN: Youth Leadership Programme in the ASEAN Region.” The purposes of the programme are to foster youth capacity building through education on SDGs, social entrepreneurship, and related topics and to provide a platform for youth to articulate their ideas and visions relevant to SDGs.

20 June 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division of Prosperity welcomed 917 professionals from Asia and Pacific Island Countries to join the inaugural webinar of Leaders for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific: Sea and Human Security on 20 June 2024 through a Zoom meeting. The programme aims to provide government officials and activists in Pacific Small Island and Asian countries with skills, knowledge, and capacity to enhance and stabilize climate, economic stability, food security, and maritime security. Another fundamental purpose of the programme is to establish a network and collaboration mechanisms among fellow leaders from Asia and the Pacific.

07 June 2024, Paris, France – On 3 June 2024, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) unveiled its ground-breaking e-learning programme to strengthen systems to counter money-laundering and the financing of terrorism in Colombia. The programme was developed in close collaboration with the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, the Financial Information and Analysis Unit of Colombia (UIAF), and the University of Antioquia.
10 June 2024, Shanghai, China – On 10 May 2024, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and IC Education signed a letter of agreement to jointly implement a youth leadership programme for high school students in China. The programme will aim to deepen the participants’ understanding of current global issues, the United Nations 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to cultivate their leadership skills to support social and economic development for a sustainable and prosperous future.
10 June 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR invites professionals from the Pacific Islands to apply to the Rapid Response to Climate Crises through the Early Warning Systems training programme for the Pacific Islands. The programme will teach participants how to effectively disseminate, monitor, analyse and respond to early warning systems for climate-related hazards and extreme weather events. As of 5 July, the application deadline is 12 July 2024 at11:59 P.M. JST (UTC+9).

28 May 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – On 25 April 2024, UNITAR signed a memorandum of understanding with the City University of Seattle (CityU) to develop joint degree or certificate programmes and share educational resources such as online learning materials and platforms. The two institutions also hope to exchange faculty members, researchers and students and jointly organize workshops, seminars and conferences in areas of common interest.
