23 December, 2021, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity will convene an online panel discussion to explore women’s leadership in disaster risk reduction (DRR) to promote inclusion and equality. The panel will be held on 26 January 2022, noon to 1:30 p.m. (Japan Standard Time), and is free and open to the public (registration required).

20 December 2021, Budapest, Hungary / Hiroshima, Japan / Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR Division for Prosperity and Central Bank of Hungary (Magyar Nemzeti Bank – MNB) have launched a new partnership to develop a training programme on the digitalization of the financial sector.

16 December 2021, Geneva, Switzerland - On 17 March 2022, UNITAR, the University of Geneva, and the University Global Coalition, host the fourth Geneva Trialogue edition, under the theme of ”Open Innovation for Education“. The Geneva Trialogue fosters communication and collaboration between academia, international organizations and the private sector, to tackle the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

• The new round for the Empowering the Sahel Region through Digital Reskilling and Upskilling to Enhance Productive Sources of Livelihood and Employment is open for applications.
• The programme will help participants turn their entrepreneurial ideas into digital products that empower others and address critical local issues arising from the COVID-19 crisis.
• The six-week programme will be held in French. It will start on 3 January 2022.
• Topics will include programming, coding, application development, digital literacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and gender leadership.
• To apply, you must be a woman or youth in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal, with a deep interest in digital technologies, good oral and written French skills, and the passion to make a positive impact on society.
• Deadline to apply: 29 December 2021.

6 December 2021, Geneva, Switzerland - UNITAR signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Academy of Diplomacy (EAD) at the UNITAR Headquarters in Geneva, to inaugurate the start of a new collaboration in the field of Multilateral Diplomacy. The MoU signing ceremony marks the beginning of a promising collaboration between the two institutes, which share a common mission of overcoming global challenges through the development and delivery of high-quality learning solutions.

December 3rd, 2021, Geneva, Switzerland - The ambitious agenda of COP 26 to accelerate action towards and beyond the goals of the Paris agreement may have been a let-down for most people. For the United Nation Satellite Centre (UNOSAT), it was also an opportunity to promote once more the added value of satellite-derived information for improving climate resilience.

December 2021 - Regardless of size, innovative and social businesses can create positive waves which reach beyond their communities to achieve national, or international status. It is this type of grassroots action which is necessary if the world is to address the challenges brought about by climate change.

December 2021 – We need the power of Generations Z and Alpha to tackle climate change. But while we recognize the importance of empowering youth, have we been helping them to act on their creativity and to reflect that back into their communities?
UNITAR Division for Prosperity hopes to do just that with its Youth Ambassador programmes, one in Hiroshima and another in Asia and the Pacific, where high school students develop projects to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
