17 March 2026, Brussels, Belgium - Applications are open for the Maritime Cyber Lab 2026, an international expert forum convened by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The Lab is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office and is designed as a focused, practitioner-oriented exchange. It will bring together senior representatives from across the maritime sector, including ports, shipping companies, international organizations, maritime insurance companies, financial institutions, and technology actors. The objective is to facilitate a structured dialogue on practical approaches to strengthening maritime cyber resilience, with particular attention to operational experiences, governance frameworks, and capacity-building needs across the maritime ecosystem. The event will take place on 27–28 May 2026 at the UN House in Brussels and can be attended in person or online and is free of charge.

27 May 2024, Online - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Djibouti Code of Conduct (CoC) Secretariat proudly announce the inception of a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at bolstering capacity in visibility for the framework in the western Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden. Central to this partnership is the enhancement of communications and visibility for the DCoC/JA. Effective communication is essential for raising awareness, engaging stakeholders, and promoting transparency. 8 April 2024 - It is with a heavy heart that we learned of the passing of Mr. Marcel André Boisard, former United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and former Executive Director of UNITAR from 1992 to 2007. The news of his departure has deeply saddened us all.

21 March 2024, Geneva, Switzerland - To promote cooperation between member states and between member states and international and regional organizations on conflict prevention and response, UNITAR, the African Union, the World Bank Group, in collaboration with the Colombian Permanent Mission to the UN, organized a side event to the 55th session of the Human Rights Council, titled Building Bridges for Peace. An exchange of experiences on DDR and its linkages with human rights, early warning, and conflict prevention between Colombia and African Contexts, that took place on 11 March 2024 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The event was organized in the framework of the UK FCDO-funded joint African Union, United Nations and World Bank programme “Strengthening Operational Linkages between Early Warning and Conflict Response (2023-2025)”.
