7 October 2025, Geneva, Switzerland – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), with the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), invites women and youth agripreneurs from Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe to apply for Phase III of the UNITAR-BADEA Accelerating Sustainable and Climate Resilient Livelihoods Through Development of Small and Medium Agribusiness Enterprises for Women and Youth programme. The programme is open to applicants who participated in Phases I and II. This latest phase focuses on helping entrepreneurs move from planning to practical action – turning their business concepts into climate-smart, market-ready enterprises. Application deadline is 15 October 2025.
6 October 2025, Geneva, Switzerland – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the University of California, Davis, through the Division of Continuing and Professional Education (CPE), on 19 August 2025. The agreement was signed in Davis, California, by Ms. Mihoko Kumamoto, Director of the UNITAR Division for Prosperity, and Mr. Michael Lazzara, Associate Vice Provost of UC Davis Global Affairs, together with Dean Julie Greenwood of UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education.
22 September 2025, Hiroshima, Japan – On 10 September 2025, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) welcomed over 1,100 participants from across the Asia-Pacific and other parts of the world to the Japan-funded “Women’s Leadership in Disaster Risk Reduction for World Tsunami Awareness Day 2025” programme. This programme, run in two phases between September 2025 and March 2026, fosters women’s leadership in community-based early warning systems and disaster response. Recognizing that women and girls are disproportionately affected by hazards, it integrates women, peace, and security principles and positions women as central actors in strengthening climate and disaster resilience in the Pacific and Asia.
19 September 2025, Bogotá, Colombia – In a significant move to strengthen the global fight against illicit financial flows, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in partnership with the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section (INL) of the U.S. Department of State, the Financial Information and Analysis Unit (UIAF) of Colombia, and University of Antioquia has successfully certified over 1,200 professionals in the first cohort of the Standard Diploma for Compliance Officers.

25 August 2025, Hiroshima – On 25 August 2025, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and SPINGLE Co., Ltd. presented “Paper Crane Recycled Sneakers” to the youth participants of the “UNITAR SDGs and Digital Futures: Changemaking Through AI/Digital Storytelling” training programme, collaborating to share messages of peace to the world.
24 August 2025, Hiroshima, Japan – On 24 August 2025, the completion ceremony for the 2025 UNITAR Hiroshima Youth Ambassador Programme was held in Hiroshima City. A total of 25 high school students from Hiroshima Prefecture presented what they learned about nuclear disarmament and peacebuilding. The programme was run by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) over two months, beginning in June, with the support of the Hiroshima Prefectural Government and Soroptimist International Hiroshima Chuo and in cooperation with the UNITAR Association.
