UNITAR's Executive Director Meets wih the President of ECOSOC
16 February 2017, New York, USA – The UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) met today with the President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and Permanent Representative of Zimbabwe to the United Nations His Excellency Frederick Musiiwa Makamure Shava. During the meeting they discussed the details of this year’s high-level political forum on sustainable development convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, which will be held from 10 July to 19 July 2017. They also went through the preparation of resume series of ECOSOC for April 2017. On this regard the ED informed the president of ECOSOC that the report of UNITAR is on the final stage and will be submitted in due time, making also reference to the resolution that the council has to adopt supporting UNITAR’s work and activities as a result of the before mentioned report. Among other areas of conversation, the president of ECOSOC stressed the invaluable work of UNITAR and how the institute will continue to have the direct support of the ECOSOC.
Mr. Seth mentioned the importance of Gender Balance on UNITAR’s Board of Trustees, which is the Institute’s governing body and formulates principles and policies to govern its activities and operations. Finally the discussion ended with a conversation on the potential project in benefit of the SADEC region, Mr. Seth will propose a project initiative for the region with the sponsorship of Zimbabwe, with a special emphasis in implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals on a National Level which would lead to stronger national capacities to implement the goals within the time frame of the 2030 Agenda.
