UNITAR Hosts First Conference in the Dominican Republic Aimed at Stregthening Road Safety
4 April 2016, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - A three-day conference on ´Transport, Transit, Mobility and Road Safety´ was implemented from 30 March to 1 April in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with the support of the government and other stakeholders in that country, mainly: the Ministry of Public Works, the Federation of Engineers, the University of Santo Domingo and Diageo Latin America.
Approximately 700 attendees and more than 25 speakers participated during the three days and covered a detailed and interactive agenda. Several institutions of the Dominican Government were involved, providing tangible resources to make this initiative a success. They have requested UNITAR to make this an annual event with a stronger focus on Road Safety. A declaration was signed in front of the audience aimed at bringing several entities together towards next year´s event.
Road safety is a top priority for the Dominican Republic, given the number of fatalities per year that put the country at the top of the list in Latin America.
