16 August 2021, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR has been following the situation in Afghanistan with great concern. We ask for the protection of life and the safety of all the people of Afghanistan, irrespective of gender, creed, or affiliation, and that humanitarian assistance be given to those in need. We stand with the citizens of Afghanistan in the hope that humanity prevails in these trying times.

Statement from Nikhil Seth, Executive Director of UNITAR:

We have been working with Afghan citizens, particularly with women and girls, for gender equality and empowerment. We will continue our work to build capacity through learning.

UNITAR Division for Prosperity and Hiroshima Office have been providing learning support to the people of Afghanistan, particularly women, for more than a decade. At this critical moment, we stand with the people of Afghanistan and request that human rights are fully respected.
