10 June 2024, Shanghai, China – From 22 to 24 April 2024, UNITAR participated in Shanghai Climate Week 2024 to share global insights, explore strategies and pathways to address climate change and promote green transformation and sustainable economic development for cities and industries.

OPENING CEREMONY

UNITAR Executive Director Mr. Nikhil Seth delivered virtual remarks for the opening ceremony of Shanghai Climate Week. He emphasized the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and cooperation between UNITAR and Shanghai Climate Week.

On behalf of the UNITAR Division for Prosperity Director Ms Mihoko Kumamoto, UNITAR Programme Specialist Mr Michael Adalla spoke about ongoing and future collaborations between UNITAR and Shanghai Climate Week to strengthen capacities, enhance the decision-making process and promote sustainable economic development. A cornerstone of that collaboration will be the Prosperity Alliance Shanghai Climate Week Sustainable Research and Innovation Lab to be launched on 20 June 2024. This Innovation Lab programme will host a range of learning opportunities and research initiatives in China and globally.

CLIMATE WEEK LIGHTHOUSE FORUM

Shanghai Climate Week

On 23 April 2024, UNITAR was invited to participate in the Shanghai Climate Week Lighthouse Forum, which concentrated on climate actions such as renewable energy, frontier technology and partnerships and collaborations.

UNITAR supports climate action to enhance learning and development related to the SDGs. Through capacity-building programmes, technical assistance and policy advice, UNITAR aims to empower individuals worldwide with the knowledge needed to navigate and succeed in climate action.

In the closing ceremony, Division for Prosperity Director Ms Kumamoto virtually expressed her appreciation for the work of the Shanghai Climate Committee and the support from the public that UNITAR received.
