The UNITAR Peacekeeping Training Programme held the Third Session of its Advisory Board in Geneva on Wednesday, 12 October 2011. This important annual event, presided by its Chair, Mr. Jean-Marie Guéhenno, former Under Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations was also attended by four of its eminent members: Lieutenant General the Honourable Roméo A. Dallaire, (Ret’d) former Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR), Senator, Lieutenant General Satish Nambiar (Ret’d), first Force Commander and Head of the United Nations forces in the former Yugoslavia, and Lieutenant General Chikadibia Obiakor, former U.N. Military Adviser for Peacebuilding Operations together with Mr. Carlos Lopes, Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR and Ms Isabel Hubert, UNITAR Associate Director, Training Department and Head, Peace, Security & Diplomacy Unit (PSD).

In-depth and enriching discussions were held during this Third session of the Peacekeeping Training Programme Advisory Board with strong recommendations being made for the continued strengthening and expansion of the Programme and reaffirmation by each of the members of their continued strong commitment to the Programme.
