16 September 2019, Geneva, Switzerland - UNITAR is pleased to launch the first edition of the Master’s in Human Rights and Diplomacy in partnership with the University of Stirling.

The University of Stirling is a highly prestigious university that is recognized globally for its excellence in teaching, research and offering a world-class student experience. The University also enjoys a vibrant and friendly atmosphere and is ranked 1st in the UK and 5th in the World for campus environment (UK International Student Barometer (ISB) Benchmark and Global ISB Benchmark 2018).

The MSc in Human Rights and Diplomacy offers a unique combination of theory and practice designed to equip students with both a strong academic foundation as well as diplomatic and other skills necessary to flourish in an international work environment.  Alongside modules familiarising students to human rights law and politics, the UN human rights institutions, and their history and philosophical foundations, students will also participate in a series of highly interactive UNITAR-run workshops training them to conduct complex negotiations and develop their leadership, public speaking, crisis management and diplomatic skills. The programme also includes a study visit to Geneva for all students, to observe the Human Rights Council in session, and to engage with United Nations practitioners working on human rights matters. Additionally, as part of the programme, students will have the opportunity to undertake an active job placement with UN agencies worldwide.

The 1st edition of this one-year programme will start in January 2020. At the end of this Master’s, students will have gained the intellectual rigour, in-depth critical thinking and practical skills necessary to understand, to question and to participate in current human rights and diplomatic practices.
