17 April 2019, New York, NY, USA - the Head of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office, Mr. Marco Suazo, met with Ms. Claudia María Samayoa Herrera, Rector of the Specialized Institute of Higher Education for Training at El Salvador, and H.E. Mr. Héctor Enrique Jaime Calderón, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of El Salvador to the United Nations, at UNITAR New York Office. Mr. Suazo gave an orientation briefing to discuss the current offer of courses, certifications and programmes available online and in person at UNITAR. The Ambassador’s and Rector aim is to revitalize the relationship with UNITAR and explore collaboration with its partner Instituto Centroamericano de Administración Pública (ICAP).

At the end of the meeting, next steps for collaboration were delineated, with the possibility of creating a Memorandum of Understanding between UNITAR and the Institute of Higher Education for Training at El Salvador to increase the development of knowledge and skills in the region, and more specifically the launch of an specific capacity building event in the line with the yearly trainings developed by UNITAR. The representatives of El Salvador were given resources from UNITAR, like for example the 2019 catalogue and access to the ”UN How to” app, as well as the latest publication “SDGS Main Challenges and Contributions”, which will hopefully give the representatives of El Salvador some additional tools to help them design and implement their training needs.
