UNITAR Delivered its Yearly Briefing on Geneva’s Multilateral Working Environment
12 – 13 October 2015, Geneva, Switzerland- Following the Briefing on International Human Rights Protection and Promotion that took place from 25 to 26 September 2015, the Orientation Briefing on Geneva’s Multilateral Working Environment is the second in the series offered for candidates of UNITAR’s Executive Diploma in Diplomatic Practice.
The sessions, composed by a series of presentations and debates, provided the participants with an overview of different UN and international organisations based in Geneva, enabling them to gain a deep understanding and analysis of the linkages between them. Through intensive group discussions with representatives of UN and international organisations such as UNOG, ICRC and ITC, the participants had the chance to familiarise themselves with the organisations’ mandate, governance and functions and were able to acquire a sound knowledge of their structure and functioning.
The participants found that the Briefing was very successful, some of them saying it allowed them to develop a “deeper understanding of the subjects without overwhelming technicalities,” adding it was “very stimulating and well organised and composed with very useful information”. UNITAR looks forward to its next activity, entitled “Climate Change Diplomacy Orientation Programme in Geneva” to be held from 3 to 4 November 2015.
