07-08 August 2019, Brasilia, Brazil – UNITAR, the World Family Organization (WFO) and CIFAL Curitiba, in collaboration with the Government of the District of Brasilia, the National Association of Departments of Transportation (Associação Nacional de Detrans), and the Brazilian Association of State Roads Departments (Associação Brasileira dos Departamentos Estaduais de Estradas de Rodagem) and with the support of Diageo hosted the Road Safety International Conference in Brasilia, Brazil.
The Conference brought together 127 participants representing government agencies responsible for road safety and traffic in Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico and Paraguay to address the following topics:
- Main obstacles to promote effective road safety policies;
- Concrete examples of practical solutions to mitigate existing road safety risk factors;
- Innovative partnerships and mechanisms in technology to strengthen road safety global campaigns;
- Potential interventions to achieve changes in road user’s behaviour.
The Conference started with a visit to “Transitolandia - Escola Vivencial do Transito”. A school hosted by the Government of the District of Brasilia and dedicated to promoting education on transit and road safety. Through the educational programmes offered by the School to youngsters and adults alike, its main goal is to contribute to reduce and prevent road traffic crashes.
Officially inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Ibaneis Rocha Barros, Governor of the Federal District of Brasilia, the two-day conference convened government officials and private sector executives to share concrete interventions aimed at improving road safety, as well as ideas for multi-stakeholder collaboration to reach road users at a larger scale.
