UNITAR and CEU Hold Conference for the International Professional Programme
6 June 2022, Geneva, Switzerland – In light of the International Professional Programme’s recent launch, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and CEU San Pablo University held a conference in Madrid, Spain to provide students with insights into the United Nations. More specifically, attendees were given insights into UNITAR’s mission and strategy to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as support governments in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Dr. Javier Porras Belarra, professor of European Law, International Public Law, and International Relations at CEU San Pablo University, opened and moderated the panel.
During the panel, Ms. Clara Sanchez Lopez delivered remarks on behalf of UNITAR regarding the functioning of the UN system and UNITAR’s mission to achieve the 17 SDGs outlined in the 2030 Agenda. Ms. Lopez also briefly explained the structure and content of the UNITAR - CEU International Professionals Programme, emphasizing the importance of boosting students’ early careers to ease their entry into the labour market.
Former diplomat of the British Diplomatic Service, Mr. Shaun Riordan, addressed the pivotal role of the global multilateral system in tackling global challenges and solving our world’s crises. Mr. Riordan shared his experience within the British Diplomatic Service, shedding insight into how he has seen multilateralism evolve firsthand.
