Two New UN CC:Learn Ambassadors for Climate Change Learning Appointed
7 March 2017, Geneva, Switzerland - UN CC:Learn is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Ambassadors for Climate Change Learning: Mr. Chebet Maikut (Uganda) and Dr. Emmanuel Tachie-Obeng (Ghana).
Mr. Chebet Maikut is the Commissioner at the Climate Change Department, Ministry of Water and Environment and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) National Focal Point for Uganda. He is also the National Coordinator for the UN CC:Learn project in Uganda. As Head of the Climate Change Department, he provides the leadership, management oversight, and technical support to climate change actions.
Dr. Emmanuel Tachie-Obeng is a Principal Programme Officer of Ghana Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and UNFCCC National Focal Point for Climate Change Education, Training and Public Awareness. He is currently the National UN CC:Learn Coordinator of Ghana and Technical Advisor of the Adaptation Fund Project. Mr. Tachie-Obeng recently facilitated the Green Economy Week in Ghana which culminated in the launch of the National Climate Change and Green Economy Learning Strategy 2016-2025.
As all the other 7 members of the network of Ambassadors for Climate Change Learning, Mr Maikut and Dr. Tachie-Obeng have played a key role in the national UN CC:Learn pilot projects and are motivated to share their technical knowledge and experiences with new partner countries on a bilateral or regional basis. They will also contribute to strengthening the global visibility and recognition of the UN CC:Learn partnership.

UN CC:Learn is a partnership of more than 30 multilateral organizations supporting countries to design and implement systematic, recurrent and results-oriented climate change learning. At the global level, the partnership supports knowledge-sharing, promotes the development of common climate change learning materials, and coordinates learning interventions through a collaboration of UN agencies and other partners. At the national level, UN CC:Learn supports countries in developing and implementing national climate change learning strategies. Through its engagement at the national and global levels, UN CC:Learn contributes to the implementation of Article 6 of the UNFCCC on training, education and public awareness-raising, and the 2012-2020 Doha Work Programme.
