Training Course on the United Nations and the General Assembly for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand
20 – 22 August 2018, Bangkok, Thailand – UNITAR delivered a three-day training course on the United Nations and the General Assembly for a group of diplomats working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand who will attend the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), or who will be coordinating from Bangkok.
The training was delivered jointly by His Excellency Amr Aljowaily, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for United Nations Affairs for Egypt with extensive experience as chair of numerous committees, and Mr. Rabih El-Haddad, expert for twenty years in international relations and Director of the Division for Multilateral Diplomacy of UNITAR. Participants spent the first two days strengthening their knowledge and relevant skills to be efficient in their work related to the UNGA. This involved a wide range of different activities: these two days were focused on giving participants a better understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UN protocol, and a negotiation skills simulation exercise. The third day was spent on a comprehensive simulation exercise dedicated to drafting skills for effective participation in the UN General Assembly.
Participants found the training course immensely useful, with 100% of them agreeing that it was useful overall, and a majority of them stating that they would be able to carry out their duties as a delegate in the General Assembly more efficiently.
