5 to 8 July 2011, Dakar, Senegal – A regional awareness-raising workshop on “Enhancing Cooperation and Coordination for the Implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions” for French-speaking African countries and key stakeholders was held in Dakar from 5 to 8 July 2011, coordinated by the Convention Secretariats. The workshop’s main aim was to offer a holistic approach to the implementation of the three conventions with an emphasis on identifying synergies and linkages at the national level as a way to foster the implementation of the conventions.

In addition, the workshop increased participants’ understanding on ways to promote cooperation and coordination amongst the three conventions. A special emphasis was placed on resource mobilization, which UNITAR supported through the development of a guidance document and presentations on resource mobilization for the sound management of chemicals and wastes, in particular to assist developing countries and countries in transition.  A previous workshop was held in Bratislava, Slovakia for the Central and Eastern European Region from 2 to 4 November 2010.
