Mr. Carlos Lopes, Executive Director of UNITAR and Director of the UN System Staff College was appointed by the UN Secretary-General as a member of the Governing Board of the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) for the year of 2009. He recently attended the 48th IIEP Board meeting, in Paris, France, from 9 to 11 December, 2009.

During the occasion, both Institutes discussed training methodologies, knowledge management, and the impact of the financial crisis on the United Nations System, as well as other topics that are common to both organizations.

Mr. Lopes acted as the chairperson of the working group that IIEP organized during the Board meeting namely “optimizing IIEP’s strategies to meet training needs” and was thanked for his valuable contribution to IIEP during the year of 2009.
