UNITAR’s International Law Programme is launching its new e-course on the Law of Treaties, for which the application period is now open. The international treaty, alongside with the international custom, is the most important source of international law. For those involved in the drafting, negotiation and conclusion of international treaties, a sound notion of the Law of Treaties is indispensable.
The e-Course on the Law of Treaties will be the first of a series of courses on various current topics in International Law which will be implemented by UNITAR. The development of this first e-course has received the financial support of the Swiss Confederation through the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
The course on the Law of Treaties is aimed at providing theoretical and practical knowledge of the rules and principles that constitutes the Law of Treaties, focusing on the stages of conclusion, the operation, modifications and termination, interpretation of treaties and their suspension and invalidity.
The course will be delivered over 4 weeks from 28 March to 24 April 2011, in English, through UNITAR’S virtual platform. The e-course allows participants flexibility, being able to work at their own pace, anywhere and anytime. Experts in international law will moderate the course and guide participants in their learning process. Furthermore, UNITAR’s staff will provide them with the technical support to use the innovative learning tools available on the platform.
UNITAR grants reduced fees for participants from least developed countries, developing countries and countries with economies in transition. In addition, fellowship awards are available exclusively to applicants from least developed countries.
