UNOSAT took part in an innovative initiative in the area of artistic imaging leading to an exhibition in Geneva in March 2011 and a permanent exhibition in Karlsruhe. This exhibition is the result of a Workshop by Armin Linke and Laurent Schmid, with students of the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG), students of the Geneva University of Arts and Design (HEAD) and of the Zurich University of Arts (ZHdK).

The latest image-creating technologies are the focus of this project named Imaging Technologies, a seminar held by the photographer Armin Linke at the HfG Karlsruhe. For the exhibition in Geneva, the emphasis will be on the topic of earth observation and remote sensing.

The organisers of the exhibition took an innovative approach to the world of remote sensing and satellite imagery: “where does photography reach its limits? How does imagery processing work beyond any artistic context? Visual information techniques are being created and various evaluation procedures are being developed which alter our viewing habits and the overall perception of the environment”.

Students had direct interaction with remote sensing experts and visits to various institutions including the European Space Agency, Italian company e-GEOS, Bundeswehr, CERN und UNOSAT to develop their work. The intention is also to put a number of entities and companies operating in domains as diverse as science, military, and commercial in direct relation with the public. A topic close to the heart of UNOSAT whose roots lie in opening the world of satellite applications to all.
