The Education for Tomorrow: Advancing Innovation in Technology and Industry conference, held at the United Nations Headquarters, brought together global leaders, academics, and industry innovators to chart a forward-looking vision for education in the age of rapid technological change. Hosted by UNITAR and the International Academy for Arts and Cultural Studies (IAA), with academic support from Shanghai University, Zhiyi Industrial Research Institute, and the Consortium for Diplomacy and Global Action of Teachers College – Columbia University, the event served as a critical platform for reimagining the role of education and industry in achieving sustainable development.

Innovation at the Nexus of Education, Technology, and Industry

The conference focused on the dual themes of transformative education and a new interdisciplinary concept—Industrialogy—as drivers of peace, prosperity, and sustainability. With an emphasis on inclusivity, ethical governance, and the future of learning, participants explored how AI, emerging technologies, and global cooperation can empower future generations and strengthen multilateral collaboration.

Several significant initiatives were unveiled during the event. Among them was the launch of the Global Think Tank for STEAM Education, which aims to empower youth through interdisciplinary research and education in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Another key initiative was the introduction of a High-Level Panel and Applied Workshop that combined strategic dialogue with hands-on training, designed to align educational innovation with the SDG.

Industrialogy: A New Framework for Industry

UNITAR

The conference introduced Industrialogy as a novel multidisciplinary field that reframes industry not only as an economic force but also as a catalyst for sustainable development, diplomacy, and peace. Recognizing the environmental and social impacts of industrialization, the concept seeks to align industry with the UN’s broader mandates, especially through science-based policymaking and international cooperation.

Aligning with Global Goals

The conference reinforced key United Nations priorities, particularly Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education, SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. It also emphasized alignment with the Pact for the Future and the outcomes from the 2024 Summit of the Future.

By bridging education, technology, and industry, the initiative supports responsible innovation, inclusive growth, and the development of sustainable and resilient societies.

As a result of the discussions, participants called for:

  • Continued global dialogue and collaboration on education and industrial transformation,
  • Expansion of partnerships across UN entities, academia, and the private sector,
  • Strengthened financing mechanisms to support long-term innovation in education and industry.
