12 September 2013, St. Ann, Jamaica - A “Workshop for the Caribbean Region Countries on the GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling)” took place from 3-5 September 2013 in, Runaway Bay, St. Ann, Jamaica. The workshop was attended by 13 Governments from the region and provided a platform for awareness raising on GHS and for countries to share their experiences with GHS implementation. As a key outcome, the Workshop agreed on concrete steps to implement this new global chemical labelling standard in the region. Participants included government officials from academia, health, labour, standards bureau, environment and agriculture, and public interest organizations.
The Workshop was hosted by the Government of Jamaica through the Ministry of Land, Water, Environment and Climate Change, with technical support provided by UNITAR/ILO, and financial support from SAICM’s Quick Start Programme Trust Fund.
