24-25 Nov 2008

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has been a Party to the Stockholm Convention since 2002. Engagement of DPRK with issues related to the Convention, including National Implementation Plan (NIP) development, study tours, and other related activities, has been ongoing. However, significant opportunities exist for strengthening cooperation related to Convention implementation. UNITAR, with the support of Switzerland, UNDP/GEF and, more recently, Germany, has been working with the Government of DPRK to gain further understanding of the Convention, and to set its priorities with regard to implementation. As part of these efforts, a meeting is scheduled in Shanghai on 24-25 November 2008. The consultation is being hosted by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, and is co-convened by UNITAR, Germany, Switzerland, and the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention. The meeting will be attended by a variety of developed country representatives and international organizations, in addition to representatives of DPRK and PR China.
